International Agreements
Global action is required to address climate change. Many agreements have been met internationally to reduce emissions and lessen the impact of climate change.
- The Paris Agreement: The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty adopted in 2015 to combat climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C, preferably to 1.5°C, compared to pre industrial levels.
- The Kyoto Protocal: An international agreement adopted in 1997 that aimed to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from countries that use many fossil fuels.
- The Montreal Protocal: An international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances that are responsible for ozone depletion.
